Thinking of where to spend your Valentine's Day?

There are three things that are exciting about today. To begin with, we are halfway into the shortest month of the year. Secondly, it’s a Friday – yes, Thank God It’s a Friday! But above all, and most significantly, it’s Valentine’s Day.

Call it whatever you like – Saint Valentine’s Day. The Feast of Valentine. It matters not. Well, there is plenty of stuff you can do to see you and your lover through this special day in a romantic, or averagely put, in a fun way. If you are still dry on ideas of where to go and chill with your love, there is a basketful of places you can go to and have a memorable evening.

If you are the adventurous couple, then you could relive Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan’s characters’ experience in the movie Love & Basketball. In this 2000 film, these two next-door neighbours, in pursuit of their basketball careers, find themselves falling in love with each other. So what better way than to reignite your love life at the YMCA basketball court for an evening of thrilling entertainment and slum dunks later today!

But if you are not the sports type, and wouldn’t fancy the mix of love and basketball, then worry not. You can go for a quieter version of that – a serene romantic evening at Honey Lamb Valentines Dinner at the Mackinnon Suites. Local sensations Jamal, Jackie Chandiru and Alex Muhangi will be there to spice up your evening with plenty of entertainment while you dine and wine away into the night.

Yet that’s not all there is. Perhaps you and your partner are Country Music lovers? If you are, then you are well sorted.  American Country Music heartthrob Ryan Turner from Texas will be performing live at Big Mike’s tonight. So be sure to catch him there.

There is this suggestion that has been doing the rounds on social media amid the Valentine’s Day euphoria that there should be a Single’s Day to cater for the single ladies and gents. Well, many will toast to that suggestion, and if you are one of them, then you definitely are single. But before we can have a Single’s Day earning a place on our calendar, you still have an opportunity to potentially hook up with a single belle or beau, on Valentine’s Day.

Fatboyz will be hosting the Single’s Hook-up Night dubbed Fatboy’s Freaky Valentine’s Party. So be there tonight, or else you will be left out in the cold, to cuddle with loneliness.

Now there is this couple that loves to party away into the night on a generous flow of Dancehall music. In this respect, Reggae Night or Macka Diamond Live party at Venom is what yee all Dancehall fans have to choose from this evening.

We are not done yet folks. If the above-mentioned options don’t do the magic for you, and the two of you instead want to tickle your love a bit, then comedy should do you good. Go and laugh your ribs out at Comedy Night where Laftaz has a Valentine’- COBOSO- Comedy Night all at your disposal. Ha ha ha!

There will be a couple of movies showing at the cinemas too. The Monuments Men and About Last Night will be showing at Oasis Cinema this evening.

Down at Calvary Cinema, you will be sure to catch Home Run while Bohemian Picture Film Club will be screening He Loves Me . . . He Loves Me Not at Metropole Hotel. So what are you waiting for then?

But if art is what refreshes that lovey-dovey that bonds you two, then you can enjoy a day out at Umoja Art Gallery where artist Edison Mugalu’s work titled Beauty of the Sunset will be on display. You can even make it a sweetly playful art day. Paint or draw each other and laugh away at the results. Remember how Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) messed up Whistler’s Mother’s painting in the 1997 movie Bean? But I will caution you to try that only, and only, at home.

And last, but definitely not the least, turn your Valentine’s Day into a shopping spree by going out and checking a Valentine’s Special Creative Market at Café Roma Restaurant. Also, Lillian & Sun-downers will be at Cayenne Restaurant and Lounge.

So now, do you have any excuses to stay home ‘plotless’?
