983 graduate from Buganda Royal Institute

A total of 983 students graduated with diplomas and certificates from Buganda Royal institute of Business and Technical education.

The Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga presided over the graduation ceremony at the institute on Saturday. The students graduated in various disciplines that included journalism, fashion and design, computer science, accountancy and marketing.

Mayiga praised the graduates for completion of their studies, but advised them to seek higher qualifications as the competition for jobs market is stiff.

He also advised them to refrain from engaging into immoral behaviour saying that it leads to AIDS epidemic.

The Principal, Anthony Wamala, congratulated the parents and guardians who offered the support to the graduates. “We teachers have done our part. At such a ceremony we showcase an indelible contribution to the moulding of young men and women,” he said.

The minister of education and sports from Buganda Kingdom, Hajji Twaha Kaawaase said that parents should embrace the significance of vocational education, bearing in mind that many developed countries use it as an instrument of development.

“I am glad that the Uganda government has intensified efforts to rejuvenate the glory of vocational education. This still requires more sensitization to the public to support private Institutions, “he said.

He said that a big number of youth is unemployed due to lack of jobs in public and private sectors in the country.

“We urge our people not to view vocational education in a negative way. Vocational training is the way to go if we are to solve the unemployment problems,” he said.
