Otuchet retains UAF seat

Dominic Otuchet bounced back as president of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) unopposed with his entire executive with a promise to bring more glory in the sport.

The church pastor was unanimously endorsed by the 39-member assembly for another four-year term at Lugogo.

It was a free ride for Otuchet and his entire executive as the other camp led by former Olympian Julius Achon boycotted the election after making futile petitions.

There was no iota of change as Lawrence Kavuma and Peter Okot Omony returned as vice presidents administration and technical respectively.

Long serving Beatrice Ayikoru also sailed through as secretary general with Apollo Musherure as her assistant. Godfrey Nuwagaba also remained as treasurer while Fautino Kiwa and Namayo Mawerere also retained their posts as organizing and publicity secretary respectively.

Following his election, Otuchet promised that despite an attempt to disorganized the assembly, UAF would move on strongly.

“Work must start now. With this big support we should be able to do much more than before,” said the Nampunge Community SS head teacher who offered an olive branch to his opponents.

Prior to his election, Otuchet dedicated the athletic medal count to blessings of God and hard work. “Only a naive person will suggest that our achievement came by accident,” he said.

“In the athletics family we conduct our business in broad daylight guided by the constitution. We are not just a meeting club,” Otuchet added.

But Achon dismissed the exercise as a scam. “This is assembly is a scam. There is no need to attend it because we got the information that the elections were done last night (Friday) at Natete. I’m just gathering more evidence,” claimed Achon who vowed to take the matter to court.
