Man kills wife with a beer bottle

Residents of a village in Kibaale district were left stunned when a man, said to be in his 50s, killed his wife after hitting her on the head with a beer bottle.

The two were in a local bar in Kyenzige village in Kyanaisoke sub-county when the incident happened on Friday, a witness said.

Joyce Kyaterekera collapsed immediately after her husband Karoli Lubega had hit her with the bottle following a disagreement between the two.

“They just disagreed on a small issue and picked up a quarrel that led to the incident,” said the witness.

The people around hastily organized for transport and rushed an unconscious Kyaterekera to St. Ambrose health centre where she was pronounced dead three hours after arrival.

 Amlan Rukyalekere, a resident of the same village told New Vision that Lubega on several occasions accused Kyaterekera of infidelity whenever she would get drunk.

While Rukyalekere believed that it is those accusations that must have led to the fatal blow, it is still unclear what exactly led Lubega to hit his wife.

The dead woman was allegedly a habitual drunkard.

The district police commander of Kibaale, John Ojokuna Elatu, said that they have already arrested Lubega with another accomplice and are currently detained at Kagadi police station.

“We have two people in custody in connection with the murder and they will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are complete,” he said.
