Minister roots for district vocational institutions

Amelia Kyambadde, the minister for trade, industry and cooperatives, has asked institutions offering vocational studies to spread into other parts of the country to help skill the youth.

She made the remarks while dissolving the governing council of Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC) that has served for one term.

“Enterprise development, especially for the youth, is a must,” said Kyambadde.

The executive director MTAC, Dr. George Tumwesigye, said that the institute has rolled out job creation training in 20 districts.

The institute conducts trainings in local languages and do demonstrations. Some of the programmes include soap making, candle making, jelly and juice processing.

Tumwesigye added that they assist those that have started out business projects to write proposals that can attract funding from financial institutions to boost their businesses.

The outgoing chairman of the governing Council Grace Musoke reported to the minister that five of the programmes offered at MTAC have been accredited by the National council for Higher Education.
