WHILE Nasser Mutebi and John Burrows are excited by the lifting of a six-year ban, Duncan Mubiru is still skeptical about competing in Uganda.

Last week Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) lifted the controversial ban on Mubiru, Mutebi and Burrows following an out of court dialogue to resolve the matter.

The trio had challenged the ban in courts of law. They were suspended for allegedly sabotaging the sport following their public criticism of the federation’s leadership.

Mubiru told New Vision yesterday that he was considering participating in the 2014 Kenya National Rally Championship.

“Don’t expect me back soon. I am yet to make up my mind. I find the Kenya championship interesting so there is a possibility that I will compete there. I wouldn’t want to want to rush back into the same mess we were involved in. I am waiting to see the new FMU leadership,” Mubiru stated.

Kenya and Uganda competition licenses are recognized in either country. Jas Mangat was the first driver to compete in both championships last season.

FMU goes to polls in February and nobody has publicly declared intention to replace George Kagimu who is not eligible to seek a third term.

Former vice president Kisitu Mayanja is said to be interested in FMU leadership while founder president Jack Wavamunno is reportedly being courted to return and rebuild the image of the sport.

Mubiru had been expected to bounce back in the Southern Motor Club organized sprint in Mukono on Boxing Day.
