RUGBY: Pirates coach scoffs at critics

G4S Pirates coach Sam Ahamya has scoffed at critics who think that his team is destined for relegation following back-to-back defeats and the recent 49-9 flogging by Toyota Buffaloes in the Nile Special Premier Rugby League.

Ahamya in an interview said that the defeats were not because the club is weak or the players are inferior to the opponents but just because the clubs lacked centres to bring the gap between the front row and the back row.

“We just lacked a proper centre setup but we are trying to rectify that now that we have got a fly half Ivan Magomu, Jemba (Brian) and Greg (Lukendo) will operate as centres and we will back on track,” Ahamya stated.

Pirates has so far suffered four consecutive defeats that include 22-20 against EzeeMoney Rhinos,29-9 against DMark Kobs,24-9 against  Heathens and the recent 49-9 flogging by Toyota Buffaloes.

Ahamya further explains that his forwards have not been training and that explains the team’s poor performance in the Scrum, Rucks and mauls but adds that he is to condition them before Sadolin Mongers game.

“What we are looking at is Mongers win and then we shall have time to condition our players ahead of the second which I can assure you that Heathens will fall,” Out spoken tactician added.

With six games played Pirates has lost four and won two but Ahamya insists that his club will seal the season in third position.
