XFM Impis chairman Louis Lwanga has said that it was a big mistake for the national rugby governing body to relegate his side to the second division basing on the Uganda Cup results.

Lwanga disclosed this in an interview after his side flogged Boks 52-0 in the opening fixture of the league that kicked off over the weekend at the Grave Yard ground in Makerere.

“We are not supposed to be in this league. Actually Lira Bulls should have benefited much in this division rather than rushing into in the premiership where they are conceding heavy defeats of over 50 points in almost all games,” Lwanga stated.

He also attributed the victory over Boks to the presence of strength and conditioning coach Benjamin Temper who the club acquired ahead of this season.

Keith Sseruyange inspired Impis to victory as he registered five tries and four conversions, while Emma Katuntu and Chris Kamau scored a try each with Augustin Kasansula adding two tries in the game that was 19-0 by half time.

“We would score a century but we wanted to test the new young boys that is why we rested senior players props Adnan Mutebi and Edrin Ssempebwa, Emmanuel Echudu and Prop  Adam Kayondo,” Temper stated after the game.

Temper added that his team will make it to the premier league next season because he sees no team that stopping them.

“We are too strong for these teams and I can’t wait to join the premier league next season,” Temper added.

The league continues on Saturday with Impis facing Stallions at Kyadondo Rugby Club while Boks host Rams at Legends.
