Vision Group is set to announce results from a countrywide survey from which the cleanest town in Uganda will be unveiled.

For three months, the media company traversed towns across the country in a campaign dubbed Make Uganda Clean aimed at highlighting a range of sanitation issues in these towns.

For long, Mbale has been known to be the cleanest town in Uganda and arguably in east and central Africa, but this could perhaps change.

In what is targeted to be an annual campaign, this year’s project will be wrapped up today with the announcement of the cleanest towns during the Urban Authorities Association of Uganda’s annual general meeting (AGM) at Crested Crane Hotel in Jinja.

According to David Mukholi, Managing Editor (Editorial), the top three cleanest towns will be unveiled and awarded with a trophy (the best) and plaques.

The trophy will be rotated through the upcoming campaigns, meaning towns will have to strive to retain their reputation, and work even harder to stay at the top.

The survey, carried out in 122 towns in the country, was done in the belief that towns will be motivated to improve their sanitation.

It involved Vision journalists going in the various towns and examining the state of sanitation there through interviewing local leaders, speaking to residents and also basing on empirical assessment.

Several aspects of cleanliness such as garbage management, sewer bursts, water supply, state of the buildings, condition of the roads and general cleanliness were reviewed.

The profiles of different towns ran from September 17 to November 27.
