PRISONS' dependable athletes, Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich and Jackson Kiprop will not be in position to save their side at the Inter Forces games scheduled for Tuesday at Namboole.

The pair was earlier scheduled to boost their team as pace-setters but this will not happen as planed following the level of fitness they are currently having.

“We have just comeback from the MTN marathon and my teammate was also advised to rest for some days before we can take part into any other related race but we shall be on the touchline to cheer our team today,” Kiprotich stated during the opening ceremony on Monday at Luzira Prisons.

But this has not stopped Prisons sports officers, Robert Iwanvu from lining up possible replacements like ahead of the action.

“We shall miss them in the field but we still have people like Phillip Kiplimo and others on the list ready for the race,” Iwanvu said.

In the women’s category, Doren Chemtai is likely to play Prisons’ lead role in the 10,000m and 5,000m contest.

Athletics champions Police have also lined up the likes of Abraham Kiplimo, Alex Cherop, Justine Bayiga and Emily Nanziri to put up a strong challenge.

This year’s event with a theme, “enhancing patriotism through sports” was officially opened by the Minister of Internal Affairs Gen. Aronda Nyakairima who thanked Stanbic Bank for the sports kits they donated to the inter forces teams.
The donation included a full set of soccer uniforms, volleyball and athletics.
