The national women rugby team coaches will use the ongoing sevens circuits to select the national team for next year’s continental championship in Morocco due in March 2-8.

The Women 7s circuit kicked off last weekend with Thunderbirds emerging the winner with a 12-5 defeat of traditional rivals Blank Panthers in the senior category while Entebbe based side Sharks defeated Kyadondo side eagles in the juniors and will continue this Saturday starting midday.

Thunder birds’ senior player Rachael Kakaire is optimistic her side will emerge victor in this Saturday’s edition.

“We are prepared and I think am ready for the games,” Kakaire stated after training on Wednesday evening.

Thunderbirds will get stiff competition from Black Panthers who are their traditional rivals. Panthers’ Brenda Kayiyi stated,” We corrected our mistakes and we are coming to win this circuit.”

Women rugby (UWRA) chairperson Jackie Kigozi explained that the games will help build the players capacity in sevens rugby before Rabat competitions.

“I think will help us prepare for the Rabat competitions and the coaches to identify the new potentials and individual weaknesses in time Kigozi stated in an interview.

Uganda that is ranked second in Africa behind South Africa will face other countries that include Kenya Senegal, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, South Africa, Madagascar and hosts Morocco for the African crown.
