After a week of consultations with various football stakeholders in the country, world soccer governing body FIFA has advised FUFA to address five key areas in a bid to improve Ugandan football.

A FIFA team led by development officer in charge of Eastern and Southern Africa Ashford Mamelodi asked FUFA to review the technical aspects of the game in the country, management of the sport, marketing and communication, governance within the federation, the league and football clubs.

“We want to see an improvement in performance within the next two to four years. If FUFA needs our help, FIFA experts will always be available. But FUFA needs to urgently address the five findings,” Mamelodi stressed during the closure of the weeklong FIFA funded consultancy at Emin Pasha Hotel.

Mamelodi and four other FIFA consultants Susan Anne, Govinden Thondoo, Diamil Faye and Patrick Onyango highlighted areas that need to improve after interacting with stakeholders that included FUFA staff, selected fans, club officials, Uganda Football Association (UFA), sponsors, CEO Edgar Watson and FUFA President Moses Magogo.

The FIFA team noted that Uganda lacked grassroot football development, marketing and communication strategies, elaborate league and club management structures.

Magogo accepted the findings and admitted that if implemented as advised by FIFA, Ugandan football will improve.
