At least 20 people have been arrested over the theft of fuel for construction of the Mbarara-Kabale-Katuna highway.

At least 20 people have been arrested over the theft of fuel for construction of the Mbarara-Kabale-Katuna highway.
 

The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura asid the arrests follow a public outcry over the widely-spread crime.
 
RCC, the company constructing the highway said it loses over 2000 litres of fuel daily. It also claimed that its road construction materials valued at over sh100 million shillings have been stolen.
 
The suspects were arrested from Ntungamo, Rubaare, Rwentobo and Rwahi trading centres in Ntungamo district with a lorry full of diesel in Jerry cans and tanks. They are being held at Central Police Station in Kampala.
 
The police boss who paraded the suspects said they are to expeditiously deal with such crimes including instituting a highway patrol from Itojo to Katuna where the road works are ongoing on.
 
Kayihura was addressing residents of Rwahi in Ntungamo district.
