THE Kyambogo University Council has directed the Vice Chancellor Prof Isaiah Omolo Ndiege to resume duty, in tandem with the recent high court ruling.

Justice Wilson Masalu Musene of Nakawa High Court in his recent ruling quashed the earlier decision reached by Kyambogo University Council recommending the dismissal of Prof Ndiege.

The Kyambogo University Council, the institution’s top most decision making body yesterday resolved to comply with the court ruling in a special sitting at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala.

Addressing the press at the Hotel after the sitting, the Council’s chairperson Prof John Okedi ordered Prof Ndiege to officially start work on Wednesday at exactly 8:00am.

Last week on Thursday, the council opened Ndiege’s office after 411 days but former Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration Prof Fabian Nabugwomu continued acting as Vice Chancellor.

The council further appealed to the staff to call off their strike and reconcile their differences with Prof Ndiege in a bid to ensure that Kyambogo resumes normal operations immediately.

Last week on Monday, both teaching and non-teaching staff of Kyambogo University resolved to lay down their tools until Prof Ndiege quits the university.

They accused Ndiege of mismanaging the university, failing to respect the governing council and staff as well as failure to effectively run the university.

Okedi urged the staff to pursue dialogue instead of industrial action saying the latter blighted the image of the university and bogged its ability to deliver quality service.

Later at around 7:00pm, the staff and Ndiege met the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura at police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala in light of finding a middle-ground.
