The Executive Director, Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI), Livingstone Sewanyana, has scooped the sub- regional human rights defenders award, 2013.

Sewanyana was recognized for his valuable and selfless contribution to the advancement of human rights in the east and horn of Africa at a ceremony held in the Gambian city, Banjul last week.

“I am humbled and honored by this recognition. It’s humbling to know that people out there appreciate the work that we do, thanks to God. The struggle continues,” he told New Vision.

The award ceremony was organised by the Pan African Human Rights Defenders Network.

The Foundation for Human Rights Initiative is an independent, non-governmental, non-partisan and not-for-profit human rights advocacy organization established in December 1991.

It seeks to remove impediments to democratic development and meaningful enjoyment of the fundamental freedoms enshrined in the Uganda Constitution and other internationally recognized human rights instruments.
