Scores injured in Masaka bus accident

At least 31 passengers were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital after a Swift Safaris coach bus lost control and over turned thrice.

At least 31 passengers were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital after a Swift Safaris coach bus registration number UAP-0464 lost control and over turned thrice.


The accident occurred at Kadugala along the Kampala-Masaka high way at about 3:30 am on Tuesday.

Among the accident victims admitted with multiple fractures include six UPDF officers who had returned from Somalia on peace keeping mission.

The UPDF officers admitted have been identified as Evans Muhereza from the 1st Battalion (Tank), Cpl Vincent Bunkwamye, Cpl Samson Tusasirwe,  Pte Yonah Twakirize (27), Cpl Sharon Namara from the Air Force and another officer whose details were still missing.

Other victims include, Robina Muganwa from Wandegeya, Swaibu Mugisha, Muhamed Lugemwa from Makerere Kikoni, Johnson Mugisha (Mbarara) Fred Muyinza (37) of Kyebando, Yasin Matovu a resident of Ntinda among others.

 The southern Regional Traffic Police, Ogwal Khasule said no death was recorded.  He attributed the accident to reckless driving.  The bus driver, Muhamed Karyango survived with serious injuries.
