Works to renovate the City mortuary adjacent to Mulago National Referral Hospital have resumed.

"We apologize we took a bit of time because we had a challenge with the first contractor but now we have got  another one and the work is going on smoothly," Kampala Capital city authority (KCCA)  director of health services Dr. Daniel Okello, said.

He revealed the shsh314m project will include replacement of all the examination tables where postmortems are done and installation of cold rooms with a bigger capacity.

According to Okello, this is the first attempt to revamp the facility since the mortuary was constructed in 1973.

KCCA closed the city mortuary last year to pave way for the repairs. The renovated complex mainly used by police for victims of road accidents, homicide, murders among others is expected to be ready in March. In the meantime the hospital main mortuary handles all cases.
