The Katikkiro (Premier) of Buganda, CharlesPeter Mayiga, has said that the people should not be divided by political party politics.

“Do not get possessed by political parties; why should you always wear green or yellow neck ties and clothes at such cultural functions? Such attire is okay at political rallies and political party platforms; we should not let politics destroy our friendship and unity,” he said.

He urged the people to practice mature politics.  “We should be in position share a cup of tea together after the political games; politics can be fatal and dangerous to our nation if not well managed,” he said.

Mayiga made the remarks during the fund-raising function for the Kasubi culture tombs at the liberation square Katwe in Masaka Town on Friday where at least sh60m was realized in cash and pledges.  The tombs, a UNESCO heritage site, were gutted by fire in 2009.

Mayiga said the people should focus on hard work, unity and development should be a priority.  He said Kabaka Ronald Mutebi has always emphasized togetherness as a key tool for progress.

He urged the people in Buganda to love and respect the Kabaka.  “We should not handle with kid gloves those who work towards bringing down the Kabaka,” he said.

Mayiga said Buganda Kingdom must shine again and restore its glory. “We must regain our glory, we are going strive to keep in the lead in almost every thing as Buganda,” he said. He said the Buganda should stop the habit of lamenting.

He said Kasubi tombs must be rebuilt and completed whether the police report is out or not.

“Its crucial to have the report on the Kasubi tombs and the culprits brought to book but that will not have the tombs rehabilitated; we must stand up and construct the Kasubi tombs. Crying all the time over the matter is not a solution,” he said.

He added that Baganda should stop being cowards on matters regarding the Kabaka and the interests of Buganda Kingdom.  He said the Baganda should learn from the past lessons.  He said they must not lose hope in terms of crisis.

He assured the people that the funds raised to reconstruct the Kasubi tombs will be well handled.

“I want transparence on matters of financial management; all the funds collected here have already been rushed to Tripocal bank,” he said.

The fundraising function attracted Kooki chiefdom authorities from Mawogola,Kabula and Ssesse counties.
