Chief Administration Officers (CAOs) have been cautioned against mishandling government contracts as this will make them personally responsible for losses.
Addressing government officials from eastern districts at Protea Hotel in Mbale recently, Keturah Katunguka, the commissioner contracts and negotiation, representing the Attorney General (AG), said some contracts committees have gone ahead to award government contracts without engaging the office of the AG.
She noted that the law provides that any contract above sh50m should be approved and signed by the office of the AG and an officer from the chambers should be involved at all stages of negotiations.
“If the AG’s office is involved in the contracts process right from the start, it will help identify and address the weak points in good time, thus avoiding losses and costly court battles,” said Katunguka.
