Two students died in a fatal accident involving a bodaboda and a saloon car on the Mityana - Mubende Highway on Thursday evening.

The accident occurred at Namagogo village near Brund petrol station, just one kilometer to Mubende town.

Alex Mulamuzi, the traffic officer Mubende police station, identified the deceased as Micheal Nyanzi 17, a student of Tiger SS in Mubende town. His colleague, who had no identification documents on him, was reportedly said to be a student, only identified as Joseph.

Nyanzi was traveling on a motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer registration number UDZ  788S which rammed into a salon car, a Toyota Premio registration number UAR 914 H.

Mulamuzi explained that the students were entering the road after buying fuel yet the car was speeding towards Mubende town.

“The cyclists did not mind about what was on the main road but just joined it and were hit by the car,” he said.

He said Nyanzi died on spot while the second victim was rushed to Mubende hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.

He however died on Friday morning but his relatives were not known by afternoon.

Eyewitnesses blamed the accident to the reckless riding of the students, saying that being a highway, they had to take extra care.

Police said they were still tracing for the identities of the second victim while Nyanzi's body was released to relatives.

Mulamuzi warned that owners of the vehicles should stop giving them out to young people and those who are not allowed to ride or drive.
