OVER 300 exhibitors from different parts of the country and neighbouring states are to embrace this year's eighth Buganda Kingdom Tourism expo.

The one week long annual event is scheduled to run from August 23rd to 30th at the grounds of the Kabaka's official palace in Lubiri, Mengo.

It is organized by the Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board in partnership with Central Government with the aim of promoting culture and tourism in different parts of the country.

Addressing journalists at palace grounds, the kingdom's minister for tourism, Ritah Namyalo said they target 300 exhibitors from various parts of the country and neighboring states. She noted that over 100 participants have already registered. Registration fees range between sh100,000 and sh2m depending on the space.

Kabaka Ronald Mutebi will close the event on August 30th. Other dignitaries expected include the Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, Katikkiro Peter Mayiga and the Central Government minister of tourism, Maria Mutagamba.

At the exhibition, children and other people will have a chance to view, wild animals in the temporary zoo set up by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC).

Namyalo said this will help people have a glimpse at their live totems.  It will also showcase the different tourism potentials from various parts of the country, and art and crafts.

Other things to be exhibited include several artifacts like the first Luganda Bible, coins used during Kabaka Mwanga's reign, the first hoe and radio among others.

Namyalo said several counties will also showcase their tourism potentials accompanied by their historical background.

"This is going to be a learning moment for the young generation about their different areas country wide. Other cultural institutions are to showcase their items too. I urge people to bring their children to learn," she added.

There will also be a boat regatta at the Kabaka's lake, between the Uganda and Kenya among others items.

Namyalo said they want to showcase new things and encourage communities to engage in tourism as an economic activity without destroying the environment.

This year's event will also host seminars and trainings for the youth and children on various issues. Children are expected to pay sh2000 while adults sh3000 for entrance.
