City Hall court magistrate Moses Nabende has adjourned the hearing of the case in which two USAFI traders’ leaders are accused of demonstrating in the market.
This was after the state attorney told the court that one of his two witnesses is not ready to testify because he is not feeling well.
This pushed the magistrate to adjourn the case to September 11, 2015.
One of the two witnesses Muhammad Senyonjo, a KCCA officer, testified that the traders’ chairperson Joseph Kagolo and their spokesperson, Muhamad Segwanyi, led over twenty traders to demonstrate which caused disharmony in the market.
According to the state attorney, Hillary Musementa, the two who include, the traders’ chairperson Joseph Kagolo and spokesperson Muhamad Segwanyi were arrested by KCCA officials as they were demonstrating without notifying the police.
The traders’ lawyer Asuman Basalilwa said that they were disappointed with City Hall Court as it takes a long time to hear cases of suspects, which wastes other people’s time.
“If KCCA is not ready to hear suspects’ cases, they should stop arresting people,” Basalilwa said.
One of the several markets owned by Kampala Capital City Authority, USAFI was acquired early this year at sh39b from city businessman Omar Nasooro.
The market is located in Katwe, a city suburb, and sits 6.8 acres of land.
