KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi, has pledged to continue giving a hand in the development of Uganda football.

Musisi made the remarks during the ground breaking ceremony for the artificial turf project to be laid at the Phillip Omondi stadium,Lugogo.

“KCCA management will make sure that football is developed and professionalised. Even when this project is completed other teams will also be given an opportunity to use the facility,” Musisi said.

The artificial turf is under FIFA’s Challenger Programme that was provided to Uganda through FUFA. The fully funded FIFA project that will take four months to complete will be handled by Edel Grass Company of Holland. The facility will also have eight years of guarantee from FIFA.

It will be the second artificial turf to be laid in Uganda. The first was installed at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Buikwe district.

FUFA president Moses Magogo pointed out that it is an achievement in Ugandan football.

“Because of our (good) relationship with FIFA we managed to get the project. The only pre-condition is that the facility should be accessible to many players,”

Six containers with the artificial turf were delivered in the country by Maersk Line (Transportation Company) last month. After paying sh320m in taxes to URA, KCCA appointed Bolloré Africa Logistics to clear the facility.

The equipment will be delivered at Lugogo on Wednesday.
