President Yoweri Museveni has condemned the attack on the Westgate mall in Nairobi, Kenya that left 67 people dead and scores injured.

Museveni said that the war against terror must be intensified, according to presidential special assistant for communication Sarah Kagingo.

The President made the remarks while addressing the 68th United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

“On September 21, 2013 we received with shock and empathy devastating news of the terrorist attack on the Westgate Shopping Centre in Westlands, Nairobi.

It is a pity that such cowardly acts are committed to innocent unarmed civilians. We strongly condemn such kind of acts. Peace must prevail and we shall continue with our peace process in Somalia and shall not concede on the war against terror,” the President said.

He added: “At this trying moment when we mourn our great sons of Africa, I wish, on the behalf of the people of Uganda and on my own behalf, to convey our deepest condolences to the people of Kenya and the entire East African Community plus the deeply affected families for the loss of their dear ones in this vicious attack.

I assure you that Ugandans are with you and we continue to pray for the bereaved and the hurt all the way through this difficult time.”
