The twins are sharing one body with one fused stomach and chest.   By Tuesday evening one of the twins was facing obstructed breathing.

The head of maternity department, Dr Gonzanga Ssenyondo said there were plans to refer the babies to Mulago National Referral hospital.

"We need to pray that their condition quickly stabilizes so that we refer them to Mulago," he said.

He said the mother first went to private birth attendants in Bukomansimbi and was later referred to Masaka hospital after experiencing severe complications.

"Things would have been easier if the mother had initially had a scan so that we could give her the due specialized attention, she was just brought here as an emergency, but we are doing everything we can to save the twins," he said.
