Sarah Gukiina is the pioneer of the chairs with metal frame and wooden slab that have grown so popular in Ugandan schools and universities today. It all started in 1997, when she struck gold with the idea after hitting several snags in business.

Sarah Gukiina is the pioneer of the chairs with metal frame and wooden slab that have grown so popular in Ugandan schools and universities today. It all started in 1997, when she struck gold with the idea after hitting several snags in business.
 
She would be much wealthier today had she not suffered HIV/AIDS illness that set her back by over three years in 2002.
 
Yet, from what the whole world thought was her deathbed, she emerged a much stronger person, trudging on from scratch to the success she enjoys today as one of  the biggest suppliers of school furniture in Uganda in just five years.  She narrated her heartrending tale of resilience and perseverance to Michael Kanaabi
 
Background 
Sarah Gukiina was born in 1958 and raised in Bwebajja on Entebbe Road. She went to Jjani Primary School and Kitende Primary School.
 
She then joined Makerere High School and Nakasero Secondary School for her secondary education. She later pursued a diploma in accounting at Kampala Business Institute. She is a member of the British Society of Commerce.
