MBALE - The High Court in Mbale has set August 13 for hearing of a case in which former Uganda Police athletics coach Peter Wemali is accused of aggravated defilement.

On Tuesday, Wemali was brought to Mbale High Court from Maluku Government Prison for hearing of his case.

But the presiding judge Justice Jessica Naiga Ayebazibwe was not available for the case to go on.

HIV positive

The embattled coach was arrested in April on the orders of Sipi Regional Police commander James Ruhweza. He later appeared before Grade One magistrate William Komaketch in Kapchorwa and charged with rape.

Wemali is to face trial for coercing three underage female athletes into sexual intercourse during a training camp in Bukwo in 2013.

Court changed his charges from rape to aggravated defilement after a police medical examination on the accused found out that he is HIV positive.

Police medical tests on the female athletes also turned out to be positive.
