KAMPALA - Police say CCTV footage at Guvnor night club shows Ivan Kamyuka Kalyesubula stabbing Johnnie Ahimbisibwe with a piece of broken glass during a brawl on Sunday morning.

Accused of murder,  33-year-old Kamyuka of Kisaasi, Kyanja is a manager at Bouy Ltd. He was arrested hours after the incident .

He remained detained at Jinja Road police station Monday evening while his wife, Nina Nyarwaka, also under police detention since Sunday, was released on police bond.

According to police, the fight ensued when Johnnie approached the accused who was in the company of his wife.

The video footage, police says, also shows Johnnie hurling a glass at them and later Kamyuka picks one of the broken pieces and stabs him in the neck.  Johnnie, a father of two, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Case Medical Centre were efforts to revive him failed.

Without offering details, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga  said  the broken glass used to stab Johnnie tore one of the blood vessels in his neck, leading to fatal bleeding.

Enanga said that the CCTV footage shows that Nyarwaka was not in any way involved in the fight that caused the death, but she was only held to help with investigations.

"Nyarwaka will record a statement with the police revealing how she knew the two parties.  The footage analysed by the police does not show her involvement during the scuffle," Enanga said.

At Jinja Road Police station, Nyarwaka, who is also mother of a six-year old , one of Johnnie's children, said she and Kamyuka were attacked without any provocation.

Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said that Nyarwaka's statement corroborates with the CCTV footage analysed by the police. She will be used as a state witness in the case, Onyago revealed.

He however said Kamyuka's murder charges could be amended to manslaughter. The accused was Monday subjected to a mental health check-up.

Kampala Metropolitan Police boss Benjamin Namanya who earlier led a team of detectives to the scene of crime where they interacted with the proprietor, Charlie Lubega, said the CCTV in the club will be very useful.

The bereaved family however appealed for justice.

At the press conference, Daniel Ssembogga, Johnnie's brother said: "We shall follow that matter to ensure that our brother and a son to our parents gets justice."

He revealed that Ahimbisibwe had lived in Sweden with Nyarwaka as his wife.

The deceased,  according to Ssembogga, returned to Uganda after their separation.

A big crowd of Guvnor 40+ revelers on Sunday evening joined the family at Sam Katungi's residence in Nyanama zone in Rubaga division where prayers were held for the dead man.

Johnnie's children 6 and 10 years old, and wife Marjorie were among the mourners.

Burial takes place Tuesday at Bufunda Village, Ibanda district .
