Christians rejoice as priest is ordained

It was an electric atmosphere of singing, rejoicing and dancing on Saturday as thousands of Christians turned up to witness the priestly ordination of Rev. Deacon Alfred Apunyo.

LIRA - It was an electric atmosphere of singing, rejoicing and dancing on Saturday as thousands of Christians turned up to witness the priestly ordination of Rev. Deacon Alfred Apunyo.

Apunyo, 33, was ordained by Bishop of Lira Catholic Diocese, Rt.Rev. Joseph Franzeli at a function that took place at Teboke Catholic Mission in Chegere sub county, Apac district.

“As a servant of Jesus Christ, I have commissioned you; go and do the will of God, preach what you believe but not what you think and guard against the sins of the world”, said Joseph Franzeli, the Bishop of Lira catholic diocese.

Franzeli further advised the newly ordained priest to always forgive and have love as he works in unity with fellow priest and Christians.

A joyful Apunyo spoke who spoke to this reporter after his ordination said; “I have a challenge in this new journey to correct the children of God at the time when there is technological advancement, with the power of the holy spirit I promise to do my best.”

Wilberto Ogwal and Florence Ogwal, parents to Apunyo said they have committed 4th born wholly to serve the Lord.


The ordination was punctuated by dancing and singing in Teboke

The ordination was attended by Maxuel Akora, the area MP of Maruzi County; Apac district MP Lucy Ajok, Ruth Acehng Ogweng and Betty Engola, wife to Minister Engola, among other political leaders.

Others were cultural leader including the Chief, Yosam Odur Ebii and Christians from other denominations.

Three more deacons, Peter Panya of Lira catholic parish and others are yet to be ordained at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral, Lira and Aboke Catholic parish according to the diocesan vocation director, Fr. Valente Opio who also doubles as the parish priest of Aber parish.
