Clad in a yellow shirt and in the company of his wife, Janet, Museveni was welcomed in a heroes’ style with hundreds of his supporters praising him.
A visibly cheerful Museveni waved back at his supporters with the big thumb, a symbol of victory in the ruling party.
The President then headed for the verification of his receipts to prove that he had paid the nomination fees for both the flag bearer of NRM and the party chairman.
After picking the nominations forms to run for the NRM chairman and the party's presidential flag bearer, Museveni addressed the party officials and supporters.
Museveni said he was asked by the historical leadership wing of the party, the historical high command and NRM members across the country to offer himself for the two positions.
"The historicals agreed that as a way forward, I come and pick these nominations forms and I offer myself for the position of party chairman and NRM presidential candidate for the period 2015-2021," Museveni said attracting loud cheers from supporters.
Historically, the president, said people intending to stand for political positions in NRM do not present themselves to the voters before securing endorsement from the party.
The culture of I want, I want is not part of NRM. I have picked the nomination forms; I have paid the money. We shall wait for the CEC (Central Executive Committee) and NEC (National Executive Committee) to do the needful and see how we can move forward," he added.
The president said Uganda has made significant strides in restoring peace and security and development, citing the number of roads that have been tarmacked and power generated since 1986 when he captured power after a five-year armed struggle.

He said university graduates with skills gaps will be retrained under the skilling Uganda program to equip them with the requisite knowledge to fit in the highly skills-based job market.
