In the latest rankings released Thursday by the world soccer governing body, Uganda slipped from 77th to 81st in the world. Uganda has also dropped three places to 19th on the continent.

In the three matches that have contributed to the latest rankings, Cranes beat Botswana 3-1 in a friendly game sandwiched between losses away to Egypt in another friendly and Senegal on Saturday in Morocco, the final 2014 World Cup Qualifier of Group J.

Meanwhile, neighbours Tanzania have moved up 1 place to 127th, while Kenya are the region’s biggest movers up 11 places to 118th. Rwanda remain rooted in 131st place in the standings.

Ivory Coast maintained its position as the top ranked African team in 19th place while 2013 AFCON champions Nigeria slipped one place to 36th and remain the 4th ranked team on the continent.

Gambia are the biggest gainers, jumping 27 places to 39th after an impressive showing at the African Cup of Nations.

World and European champions Spain stretched their lengthy reign atop the standings to 25 months. Argentina, home to Lionel Messi, the reigning World Player of the Year have moved up two spots to second while Germany move down one place to third.

Italy and Colombia round off the top five while dark horses for the 2014 World Cup, Belgium move up four spots to occupy 6th place.

Five-time World Cup winners and 2014 hosts, Brazil, continue their climb up the rankings with a one place move to 8th while England have dropped three places to 17th.
