WHEN the professionals gather on a round table to share sh30m prize money at the end of the Uganda Golf Open in Entebbe tonight towering Denis Anguyo will be absent for the seventh time.

The Big Mike sponsored Anguyo is a fine golfer but the Uganda Open has remained a jinx---little wonder that he was among 15 of the 35 professionals who did not make the cut on Thursday.

“Herman Mutaawe I have missed the cut for seven years what’s your advice? Should I give up on the Uganda Open and become a spectator? Should I should stop giving it special attention or what. This Uganda Open is not my tournament,” Anguyo wondered drawing laughter from Amos Kamya, Brian Mwesigwa and Godfrey Mande who were axed as well.

“Mwesigwa your situation must be very painful because you missed narrowly,” Kamya joked. Sadi Atibu, Brian Toolit, George Olayo, Stephen Odong, Grace Ocici and Gerald Ayella were the other Ugandans who did not make the cut in the four-day event.

Kenyans John Kisia and Stephen Wangai, Rwanda’s Jean Baptist and Tanzania’s Rajab Iddi did not make the cut as well.
Uganda’s Vincent Byamukama had comfortable seven shot lead midway tournament and he is expected to remain in firm contention in the final round today.

While Byamukama had commanding lead on Thursday, six of the top 10 were from Kenya, posing a big threat to local field in the professional event. Deo Akope, Emma Onito and Silver Opio were the other Ugandan in the top 10.
With 10% of the purse going to the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) coffers winner will take home sh5.3m.

The amateur and subsidiary categories of the tournament also end today. The event will be end with a prize-giving ceremony at the clubhouse.
