Knights v Warriors (Sunday, Nairobi)

ARTHUR Kyobe and Roger Mukasa are still hitting all the right notes on the cricket field. It is just that both are not doing it by hitting the runs anymore.

Kyobe and Mukasa once again delivered talismanic performances as the Nile Knights and Rwenzori Warriors stormed the final of the East Africa Cricket Cup, meaning that a Ugandan team is going to win the competition for the first time.

Kyobe smashed a century off 87 balls as Nile (190/7) defeated Rising Star Chuis by 45 runs at the Simba Union oval.

By contrast, Mukasa’s man-of-match performance against the Express Ndovus owed more to his exploits with ball and not bat, as you would expect from Uganda’s opener and most effective batsman since 2009.

Mukasa scored just 28 runs of Rwenzori’s total of 225 in 49.4 overs but he claimed 5-22 in 8.5 overs as the Ndovus were all out for 152 in 36.5 overs.

In the short term, Mukasa’s budding status as an all-rounder will be celebrated especially by the Warriors, who now have a shot at winning their first EA Cup.
