UGANDA Open contender Denis Anguyo fired warning shots in the Preparatory professional tournament at Entebbe Golf Club on Monday.
Anguyo shot 71 in the tournament that was exclusive to only Ugandan professional golfers to help them shed off rust ahead of the sh40m Uganda Open that tees off on Wednesday in Entebbe.
The tournament indeed served its purpose as none of the competitors scored under par. Even then, the winner was three strokes clear of second placed George Olayo.
Godfrey Mande and Silver Opio tied in third place on 75 in the event sponsored by Ferdsult Engineering Services and Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA).
Herman Mutaawe, Stephen Odong, Vincent Byamukama and Emma Onito shared fifth position.
“The greens were quite fast but I must acknowledge that the course is fantastic. The fairways and greens are near perfect. This tournament has prepared my mind of the major competition. I look forward to improving on my score in the Uganda Open,” Onito remarked.
Only the top 10 of the 19 local professional who took part in the tournament got a share of the sh5m prize money.
