Mengo Chief Magistrates Court has overturned earlier orders directing the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to revert to analogue TV signal transmission from digital signal transmission.

Mengo grade one magistrate, Moses Kagoda had issued an interim order directing the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to switch back to analogue television from digital signal transmission, pending hearing of the main suit.

The main application filed by a concerned citizen, Enoth Mugabi followed the conclusion of the digital migration process from analogue to digital on 17th June 2015.

In her ruling yesterday, Principal Grade One Magistrate Janeva Natukunda overturned the orders, saying the court had no jurisdiction to entertain Mugabi’s application. She advised him to file his case at the High Court which has jurisdiction to handle the case.

Mugabi challenged the switch saying that it denied him an opportunity to enjoy free-to-air TV services unlike digital signal transmission that requires one to pay subscription.
