MTN ordered to provide murder suspects' phone printouts

The High Court orders MTN Uganda to provide telephone printouts for three numbers used by suspects implicated in the murder of Lira businesswoman Susan Akidi Eryau.

The High Court has ordered telecommunication company MTN Uganda to provide telephone printouts for three numbers used by suspects implicated in the murder of Lira businesswoman Susan Akidi Eryau.

Hearing of defence submission failed to take off mid-week after the printouts were not produced in court as earlier requested by the suspects through their lawyers.

Five accused persons were told by court to defend themselves after prosecution presented prima facie evidence implicating them in the murder of Eryau.

She was killed January 6 last year at Ireda Lumumba, Central Division in Lira Municipality.

Patrick Ogwang Osinde, Andrew Ogwang Saleh, Ramathan Ogwal, Peter Duca and Owoo were further remanded to Lira Prison and will be brought back to court on August 3, 2015 to defend themselves.

The five are charged with murder, aggravated robbery and attempted murder.

The prosecution’s case is that they shot dead Susan Akidi, robbed her of shs65m and attempted to kill her son Jonathan Enamu who was also shot and seriously injured.

Prosecution produced 11 witnesses, and 20 exhibits were tendered including two motorcycles, one of which the alleged killers rode.

The suspects said they intend to produce witnesses as well.

The presiding judge, Lady Justice Winifred Nabisinde, also summoned the deputy regional police commander, the regional internal security officer and a one Joel Okwir to appear in court in Augusts as defence witnesses.
