A giveaway function last Sunday went awry when a man was arrested together with his daughter and son-in-law for giving her off to two different men.

The bride, Annet Nakinaalwa, was set to introduce James Kinobe to her father Lawrence Kasuse, in Mpugwe village, Kyegonza sub county in Mubende district.

Kinobe had an entourage of six people, and had carried bars of soap, beef, rice, kerosene and sodas as bride price.

Because Nakinaalwa was aware that she had once introduced a man to her father, she kept the function low profile and few guests from around the village had been invited!

Police said that last Friday they received a complaint from Mohammed Lutaaya, the first man to be introduced, that he had been hunting for his wife in vain until he was tipped off that she was set to introduce someone else on Sunday.

Reports indicate that when Nakinaalwa left Lutaaya's home she run into the arms of another man in Kyegonza; but Lutaaya had planted a spy in the village and left his phone contact to tip him off on any information regarding his wife.

As fate would have it the spy expressly informed Lutaaya that his wife was set to introduce another man.

Allevious Muhoozi, the CID boss Kanoni police said Lutaaya accused his wife of not only fleeing from their marriage but cleaning out his home!

The suspects are now being held at Kanoni police. Kasuse is charged with gaining property under false pretense.

Nakinaalwa is charged with marrying another man while still married (bigamy) for which she faces one year in jail if convicted and Kinobe is charged with eloping with a married woman for which he faces six years if convicted.

Suspects speak out

Kinobe on his part says he met Nakinaalwa in Kyegonza sometime back and struck a relationship with her but she insisted she had to introduce him to her father first.

He added that for the short period he had known her she had never revealed that she was married to another man and was therefore blown out of the sky when the truth dawned on him.

Kasuse, the bride's father defended his actions saying Lutaaya had never given him any bride price.

"Lutaaya came with my daughter and her auntie for introduction, and he gave me a few gifts which I had not asked for. If they failed to resolve their difference I have the liberty to welcome another man she will have chosen" the old man said.
