VIPERS along with newcomers Soana picked up wins on the opening day of the Super League while defending champions KCCA FC and record champions SC Villa could only play out a draw.

Ronald Muganga equalised for Villa late in the first half after the Jogoos had trailed most of the half.

KCCA striker Herman Wasswa had gifted the Lugogo side the lead when he converted a penalty in the 9th minute following Villa goalkeeper Martin Elungat’s clumsy tackle to fell Wasswa inside the penalty area.

A frustrated Steven Bengo was substituted early in the second half after he failed to have any significant impact on the game.

“He (Bengo) did his part according to the game plan but I could not let him continue the match because Villa players had clearly come for him,” KCCA coach George Nsimbe said after the match.

“But I’m not disturbed by the result because taking a point off Villa is a positive for us,” Nsimbe added.

Villa appeared more determined to snatch a win in the league opener but veteran Hakim Magumba and Muganga, who connected very well upfront had their late efforts at goal foiled by KCCA goalie Nicholas Sebwato during the game.

In Masaka, Robert Kimuli and Martin Muwanga scored as Vipers SC beat the home side 2-0 at the Recreation Ground while Francis Oloki scored the only goal of the game to give newcomers Soana FC a 1-0 win over CRO at Kavumba Recreation ground.
