KCCA FC head into their opening Super League fixture on the back of lifting the Super Cup, but team coach George Nsimbe is not contented with the way his side won the trophy at Nakivubo stadium last Friday.

Nsimbe is particularly not impressed with the way his players failed to hold and pass the ball but easily dropped it against Sports Club Victoria University. 

The Lugogo side eventually took the day 4-3 in penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. KCCA FC won sh1.5m top prize besides the trophy while SCVU settled for sh500,000.

“We could not hold the ball. We hardly made five passes. Yes, we have won the Cup but I’m not impressed by our performance. The good thing is this match has helped me identify our weakness and we shall work on them in time,” Nsimbe said after the win.

KCCA is known for playing an entertaining game, something Nsimbe’s current team does not seem to fancy, more than results. The Super Cup is played between the league champions and the Uganda Cup winners.

Renewed rivalry

One of Uganda’s biggest football rivalries will be renewed this afternoon as the Super League kicks-off.

KCCA and Villa will again be the centre of attraction when they face-off at Nakivubo in one of the three opening matches of the league. Nsimbe had earlier warned his players to be at their best in order to get the better of Villa. 

“Opening matches more so against Villa are usually tough. So we have to seriously prepare.”

“Expect a much improved Villa this season,” said team manager Peter Nsaba.
