Swimmers line up for Seals show

Over 170 swimmers are expected to compete in the inaugural Seals Club Invitational Swimming Gala starting at Kampala Parents School Swimming Pool on Thursday.

Over 170 swimmers are expected to compete in the inaugural Seals Club Invitational Swimming Gala starting at Kampala Parents School Swimming Pool on Thursday.


The four-day event, sponsored by Centenary Bank, will have swimmers from Ugandan and Kenyan clubs and schools battling for medals, trophies
and records.

According to Seals chairman, Tefiro Serunjogi, his club will field over 70 swimmers in the competition that has the U-12, U-13, U-14, U-15, U-16 events and the open category for participants over 17 years.

Seals Club will be up against local rivals Dolphins Swim Club Kampala, Altona, Gliders, Makerere University, UCU, ISU, Sharkteens and Rubaga girls.

Torpedo from Eldoret and USIU will represent Kenya.

Training camp set


The championship will be followed by a training camp conducted by one of South Africa’s national elite youth coaches Hilton Slack. The three-day programme will start on Monday.

A camp gala will then be held July 10-13.

Serunjogi said swimmers can opt to attend the invitational, the swim camp or all the activities lined up.

The activities are sponsored by Vision Group, Pepsi, The Normandy Company, Highland Water and Kampala Parents School. There will be more action after all these activities.

A two-day Uganda Swimming Federation Gala will run July 18-19. Focus will then turn to the third edition of the Seals League also due next month.

The league will be held under the Uganda Swimming Federation calendar
