Nile Breweries have renewed their partnership with FUFA, with an announcement of a sh4b sponsorship towards the Uganda Cranes activities.

Nile Breweries Marketing Director Daniel Ogong unveiled the four-year sponsorship during a press conference at Nile's Luzira depot.

Part of the cash (sh1.8bn) will go direct to FUFA to fund national team activities while sh2.2bn is an additional to promote the national team through various media platforms and the 'Cranes na Mutima' countrywide tours.

The sponsorship is a significant improvement from the sh1.2bn sponsorship FUFA received over the past three years from the brewers.

Another cheque of sh54m collected by Nile Breweries from soccer fans across the country during last year's Cranes promotion campaign was also presented to FUFA at the same function.

"We begin a renewal of a special partnership; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to Ugandan sport, as you know we are not only involved in football but in many other sports disciplines, but this is just to say we are fully behind you," Ogong said.

"It is a great pleasure for us as Nile Special to support the Uganda Cranes. As a brand we take special pride in partnerships that bring us together as Ugandans and the Cranes is one such platform," Ogong stated

The contract also confirms Rwenzori Water as the official water provider of the Cranes.

FUFA first vice president Justus Mugisha was grateful for the sponsorship saying: "We are very excited as FUFA for this kind of sponsorship to the national team and since it is not the first, we are very grateful," Mugisha said.

"For us it is a pat on the back from you, it goes on to indicate that our relationship has worked out well the reason you have come back to us. We pledge to put this support to very good use. We are excited that there is cash and we promise to use it very well,"

He said the Cranes na Mutima campaign had popularised the team and that now every Ugandan now feels part of the team and that the campaign has also helped them identify new talent.

Meanwhile FUFA CEO Edgar Watson confirmed that the Malawi versus Cranes friendly is on. The Cranes will immediately fly out after their CHAN return leg fixture against Tanzania on Saturday.
