Drama engulfed Buganda Road Court Monday as Golden Production singer Stecia Mayanja's
husband, Abbas Mubiru, was re-arrested over another debt of over shs13m.

The money in question arose from a civil matter where Mubiru was asked to pay a sum of shs13.9m to a one George William Afaayo.

It is a judgment debt where Mubiru was ordered by the civil court Assistant registrar Emanuel Baguma.

However, Mubiru failed to honour the order and the decree as passed by Assistant registrar Baguma.

This forced Afaayo to petition the High Court executions division over the matter. Court then ordered bailiff Ismail Magumba to produce him before July 24.

Mubiru, who had appeared at court to hear the case in which he is accused of obtaining over shs45m by false pretense from Ronald Ddanze, was caught unawares, arrested and detained within the court cells by the bailiff.

Mubiru had learnt of the presence of the court bailiffs outside court after the hearing of his case and decided to stay inside the courtroom for over four hours to foil the arrest.

However, this could not save him as the bailiffs, led by Magumba, approached him with the warrant of arrest after he defied court orders.

After about one hour of a heated quarrel, Mubiru 33, a resident of Katale- Bunamwaya in Wakiso district was put in a Toyota Harrier, registration number UAM 077R and whisked to Kampala High Court where the warrant of arrest was issued.

The assistant registrars ordered him to clear the debt or part of it and be set free.

At around 5:30pm, Mubiru managed to raise sh3m from his wife and friends and was later released on condition that, he pays sh1.5m every week without fail until the debt is cleared.

Earlier on, Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Lillian Bucyana adjourned the matter after granting an application by his lawyer, Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, seeking to be availed witness statements by the state.

Prosecution alleges that between October and November 2014, in Kampala, Mubiru obtained the money in query from Danze pretending that he was selling a piece of land at Lubowa in Wakiso district.

According to police records, it is not the first time that the accused is an offender.

Stecia sat quietly in her car where she was observed the court proceedings and later drove away, crestfallen.

The matter will be brought to court on July 22, for further hearing.
