THE search for a 24-man squad to compete at the World Lacrosse Games will start with trials this weekend. The event is due at at Makerere University Business School and at Kyadondo Rugby grounds. 

Uganda Lacrosse Union (ULU) will then pick the team for world show due in the United States next year.

ULU secretary Maurice Sserunkuma said the trials are mandatory for players with intentions of joining the world’s top names in the US. 

The official said yesterday that they had received re¬quests from Ugandans abroad to get involved in the trials.

Eight players abroad

“We have received eight requests from Ugandans in Canada and USA who are willing to be part of the team,” he said. 

A technical team to evaluate players at the trials will be lead by an American Tyler Steinhardt, who also doubles up as general manager of Uganda’s team at the United States show.

The 24-man squad will be picked from 45 players called after the ULU organised national league. 

Players are drawn from Strykers, Panthers, Oneonta, Warriarz and Kings teams. 

ULU plans to have a series of friendlies with foreign teams. 

The union had, earlier on approached the lacrosse bodies of the United States and Canada for the friendly games.
