Opposition coalition constitutes committees

The Democratic Alliance (TDA), which was launched last week on Wednesday to field joint candidates in the 2016 elections, has constituted some of the committees to execute its mission of removing the NRM government from power.

The Democratic Alliance (TDA), which was launched last week on Wednesday to field joint candidates in the 2016 elections, has constituted some of the committees to execute its mission of removing the NRM government from power.

The committees were constituted during a meeting which has been held today at Eureka Place Hotel in Ntinda, according to the TDA technical coordinator, Godiber Tumushabe.

Former Buganda premier, Joseph Mulwanyammuli was appointed to head the disputes resolution committee, Justice Forum president Asuman Basalirwa heads the campaign strategy and coordination committee, DP Vice President John Kawanga will head legal affairs, FDC chairman Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa will head finance and fundraising, and the Leader of Opposition in parliament Phillip Wafula Oguttu will head the publicity committee.

The meeting also fully constituted the summit of principals by incorporating eminent persons include Bishop Zac Niringiye, Bishop Mleod Baker Ochola, Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda, Dr. Kizza Besigye, Augustine Ruzindana, Miria Matembe, Prof. Abas Kiyimba, Prof. Fredrick Ssempebwa, Mulwanyammuli Ssemogrere and  former UN diplomat Thelma Awori.

Tumushabe said, “We have agreed that at the next summit meeting we shall constitute the national candidates’ committee.”

The stakeholders have agreed  to coalesce and takeover power  after which they will constitute a transitional government of national unity (TGNU) with the purpose of implementing appropriate political and economic reforms to build a strong and durable foundation for democracy, rule of law and economic justice. 

The Democratic Party (DP), the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA), Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC), The Conservative Party (CP), the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP), Justice Forum, and Pressure for National Unity leaders signed a protocol whose mission is to field joint candidates at all levels in the 2016 general elections.

Chaired by Prof. Ssempebwa, the meeting has been attended by former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya, Hope Mwesigye, Mulwanyammuli Ssemogerere, FDC president Gen. Mugisha Muntu, UPC president Olara Otunnu, UFA president Beti Kamya, Bishop Baker Ochola, DP secretary general Mathias Nsubuga, PPP vice chairman Dick Odur, Justice Forum president Asuman Basalirwa, and CP president John Ken Lukyamuzi among others.
