The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has set its date for the nomination of part Presidential candidates.

Sources in the party told New Vision that the party had set July 1st and 2nd as dates when the party would conduct the nominations.

Nominated candidates will then start campaigning and eventually delegates will elect one who will face off with the other candidates from different parties for the 2016 national elections.

FDC secretary for Mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe confirmed the dates in a message to the party members.

“Nominations for FDC presidential flag bearers have been set for 1 and 2 at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi,” Turinawe said.

Turinawe further added that the position was open to be competed for by all/any interested party card holding member.

“The person must be having qualifications required to contest for the president of Uganda as per the constitution,” she added.

The party has set the nomination fees as Ugshs 2,000,000.

The candidate must be 35 years and above, must have an academic qualification of S.6 or its Equivalent, a Ugandan by decent and must never have been declared bankrupt.

The incumbent party President Maj. Gen (rtd) Mugisha Muntu has already declared he will contest for the seat.

Despite stepping down as Party President earlier, sources told the New Vision that some members were putting pressure on Col. (rtd) Kizza Besigye who has stood against President Museveni in 3 elections to reconsider his decision and vie for the party presidency.

The nominated FDC candidate will have to traverse the country to meet the delegates before they are called to Kampala to elect.

In April, the Electoral Commission issued a new roadmap for the 2016 elections in which it announced that the exercise to elect the countries President and Parliament representatives will be held between February 12 and March 12 next year.

According to the new road map, candidates will have between October 12 and February 15, 2016 to campaign ahead of voting.

Nominations for Presidential candidates will take place on October 5 and 6 while Parliamentary candidates will be nominated on November 9 and 10.

Nomination of candidates for the village youth, persons with disabilities and older persons will run between June 5 and 16, while those for local government council elections are set for October 19-23.
