POLICE have urged private security firms to install security systems in all areas of operation around the country.

The appeal was made by the Finance Manager Securex, Patankar after the company was voted the best private security firm by the People’s Choice Awards.

The state of art technology will help prevent entry of unauthorized persons in areas under surveillance to help reduce the increased crime, which has seen several private security guards murdered in a space of five months while on night duty.

“Private security firms should embark on the installation of security systems,” Nachetket told New Vision, in an interview, Thursday, last week.

The winners of the People’s Choice Awards, were chosen from 38 Ugandan companies whose brands are being consumed by the Ugandan community.

The awards were aimed at identifying brands on the market that comply with the standards of Uganda.

Early this year, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ibin Senkumbi told security firms to install surveillance cameras, motion sensors and intruder alarm systems in all areas guarded by private security firms.

He said this in a one day workshop at the Securex Operations office on Luthuli Avenue in Bugolobi.

He later asked all firms to change the security analog systems to digital systems where monitoring can be done easily on gadgets like mobile phones, television sets and other electronic devices.

“With such technology, guns and millions of shillings will not be taken during such raids,” Senkumbi said.

The Securex operations Manager, Vishal Dathwal, said “clients who hire private security firms tend to backtrack after receiving quotations of security systems claiming they are expensive.”.

He added that systems can also be monitored over the internet to save private security firms from night supervision where many operatives have been attacked by serial robbers.
