Mamerito case stalls for lack of witnesses

The hearing of a case in which five people are accused of attempted murder of the Kira town Council Mayor Mamerito Mugerwa has been postponed again due to lack of prosecution witness.

The hearing of a case in which five people are accused of attemping to murder Kira Town Council, mayor Mamerito Mugerwa has been postponed again due to lack of prosecution witness.


The court presided over by the Nakawa Chief Magistrate, Flavia Nassuna was forced to postpone the hearing on Monday following the absence of the state prosecutor, the applicant and witnesses to pin the suspects.

“This is my last adjournment of this matter. If prosecution does not bring the witnesses, I will dismiss the case,”she warned before adjourning the case to July 13 for further hearing.

Five people including Kireka zone C chairman, David Ssekiziyivu and LC 1 chairman of Kasokoso in Kira, David Mugalya are battling charges of attempted murder of Mamerito on November 5, 2013.

This followed a fracas that ensued when residents of Kasokoso village were being evicted from their land to set up a satellite city.

The land belongs to National Housing and Construction Company (NH&CC).

Others charged are Hajji Musa Ssewagudde, Jude Kabaggoza and local council secretary for mobilization in Kasokoso land, Umar Muyanja. They are out on bail.

Prosecution alleges that the suspects and others still at large on November 5, 2014 at Kasokoso village Kireka parish Kiira town Council, Wakiso district unlawfully attempted to cause the death of Mamerito.
