Idd el-fitr: Full moon expected this week

The director of Sharia, Sheikh Hussein Rajab Kakooza, has advised Muslims to watch out for the moon on Wednesday, which will be the 29th day of Ramadhan.

Sheikh Kakooza said if the moon appears on Wednesday, Idd-el-fitr will be celebrated on Thursday, according to a release from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).

He, however, said that failure to sight the moon on Wednesday would mean Idd will be on Friday.

Kakooza appealed to Muslims to contact UMSC if they see the moon or get reliable information on the matter. Such information can be passed on to UMSC officials on mobile phone numbers: 0772409826, 0702409826 (Director of Sharia), 0772-525171 (deputy director of Sharia), 0772-409504 (spokesperson).

Kakooza congratulated Muslims for fasting during the holy month.
