FORMER national rally champion Dr. Ashraf Ahmed and his co-driver Peter Stone are optimistic they can emerge victorious in the Shell V- Power Pearl of Africa rally next month in the districts of Kampala, Mukono and Luweero.

Stone revealed this in an interview during which he said that besides their car being in good condition, Dr. Ashraf was a mature driver and very composed behind the steering wheel.

“Some young drivers think they are supermen and just power their machines without considering any eventuality, which is not the case with Ashraf,” Stone stated earlier this week.

The crew that was last week boosted with sh21m by Oilibya, ruled out any move to drive a new car and stressed that they will use their old Subaru GC8 until next year when they hope to import a new car.

Stone is an experienced navigator who has partnered Emma Katto and many other top drivers in Kenya since 1987 when he joined motorsport.

Over 26 drivers, including top African drivers like Zambian Muhammad Essa, Kenya drivers Ian Duncan, Frank Tundo and his son Carl Tundo, Giancarlo Davite and Peter Horse, have confirmed participation in the event which is the sixth round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC).

The Pearl of Africa rally is sponsored by Shell V-Power, Silver Springs Hotel, Coca-Cola and Fire and Safety Appliances.
