Uganda third after day one of regional golf tournament in Malawi

Uganda captain Flavia Namakula posted the best scores after day one's action at the East and Central Africa Regional Challenge Trophy at Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi.

Uganda captain Flavia Namakula posted the best scores after day one's action at the East and Central Africa Regional Challenge Trophy at Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi.

Namakula returned 81 gross while Eva Magala and Irene Nakalembe carded 84 and 86 respectively to finish day-one third behind Zambia and Kenya.

The Ugandans are 14 strokes off the leaders and defending champions Zambia who are in the lead with a total of 237 gross with Kenya in second with 249.

Hosts Malawi are last with 288 in the biennial tournament that has attracted four countries.

The three-day stroke play championship will be played over 54 holes.

Two-time champions Tanzania (2009&2011) did not make it to the championship that is aimed at giving regional golfer's confidence and experience in international competitions, and the hosts a feel of hosting international events, ahead of the All Africa Challenge Trophy competitions.
